All you ever wanted to know about EFT

  1. What is EFT?

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques. It is old and new at the same time: old because it is based on 5,000 year old information about acupuncture, and new because it has been greatly simplified so that anyone can use it.

It has been called psychological acupuncture or "do-it-yourself" acupuncture. Because no needles are used, anyone can learn to stimulate the meridian points on your own body by tapping them with your fingertips. The EFT process is so easy that I have taught it to children as young as 4 years old and senior citizens as old as 92!

By simply tapping on a few of your own acupressure points, you can get quick relief from an impressive list of emotional and physical problems. In individual sessions, small groups, and workshops, I have easily and quickly taught people to have true emotional freedom without long-term therapy.

  2. What is the Discovery Statement?

The concept of Emotional Freedom Techniques is based on one simple, but profound statement:

"The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system."

Look at the above statement and notice that we said ALL negative emotions----not just some of them, but all negative emotions are caused by disrupted energy. As a classically trained psychotherapist, I always believed that negative emotions were caused by negative events or people or circumstances. Instead, it is the energetic conection to those events that causes the pain.

By simply dealing with the energetic disruption through EFT, the negative emotions tend to fall away very quickly.

  3. What about Physical Issues?

Because our physical pains and diseases are so often connected with our emotions, we have seen amazing results using EFT for all kinds of physical ailments. Since unresolved negative emotions are major contributors to most physical pains and diseases, it makes sense that EFT can provide relief from even chronic medical conditions.

  4. Who started EFT?

If we go all the way back, we can say that the original concepts about the body’s energy systems were discovered by Asian Healers more than 5,000 years ago! Next, we know that Albert Einstein explained back in the 1920’s that everything (including our bodies) is composed of energy.

Dr. Roger Callahan took those concepts and developed Thought Field Therapy more than 20 years ago. He used complex combinations of acupressure points called algorithms and extensive muscle testing to heal emotional and physical problems.

Finally, along came Gary Craig, an engineer who studied under Dr. Callahan and developed a much more “user-friendly” system for energy healing that he named EFT, or Emotional Healing Techniques.
